Change: Part II {Thoughts on Photography}

Along with taking a break from blogging, I haven’t been focusing on photography either.  Sometimes taking a break (even an unplanned one) is good for you.  It was for me, because in coming back, I come with a new perspective.  Even though I haven’t been taking piles of pictures, I feel as if I’ve grown in my style, my perspective, and even how I approach taking pictures.

Photography is art. That idea might seem basic to many of you (even those who aren’t photographers!). However, I’ve realized this concept anew over the past year. Art is created. Sometimes I see it first and know it’s a masterpiece before I even take the picture…sometimes, I don’t see it till later (the picture in my last post is testament to that!)  Sometimes, I see it within another picture and a new piece of art grows from there. I create the art. Since art is created and I’m the one designing and creating…than I don’t have to answer back to anyone. If I like it…if I love it than that’s good enough for me. Sometimes, I need to make it for me.  Yes, that sounds extremely selfish…and it is.  But, if I’m not exploring for me, then my style doesn’t grow, if I don’t continue learning, I’ll stay where I am, and I’ll get stuck.

So I begin again…or perhaps simply continue down the path of honing my specific photographic art, my style…I want to remember:

Look for the beauty, it’s everywhere waiting to be found

Push the boundaries of what I already know and do with a camera

Germany: Tiny Village

AimsPhotography_Germany_Travel_Photographer_Art_Nature.photos-3Another peak at a piece of Germany, this time from higher perspective.

I love this picture the more I look at it (which doesn’t happen to me very often!) If I think about it and release my imagination… this picture becomes a story, the tiny village the setting. The story of a quaint village along the river and the unique people who live there. Or perhaps a quiet unsuspecting place for a hero to hide. Maybe the mansion is soaked in mystery, of hidden secrets and long forgotten passageways.

So take a moment and sit back; let your imagination go, allow the picture tell you a story of it’s own…the possibilities are endless!

Did the picture inspire you? I’d love to hear what your imagination came up with!

Last weekend some of us hit the slopes up in Revelstoke, it was worth it for lots of reasons… One of which is that we got a day with some amazing scenery. (A piece of me wished I’d taken one of my “nice” cameras with…and the other piece is glad I didn’t because it’s hard to snowboard with a camera, especially because this season I’m rediscovering the sport of snowboarding).
This was taken on the last run of the day. As we came down the hill we had to board through a patch of fog…which had created this quiet winter wonderland. I was struck by the beauty of the snow clinging to the branches…a stark contrast to the bright sunlight up at the top.
Today is a reminder that there’s different types of beauty everywhere – we just have to stop for a moment to see it.

Somehow…since the last time I blogged; not only has Christmas pasted but also New Years, and all the fun, joy, love, celebrating and craziness and general chaos that surrounds them… it’s hard to believe we’ve passed the halfway mark through January! :-S

Anyways, just a little note to say that I’m back around (hopefully! 😉 ) and am super excited to be sharing some recent-ish photo sessions on here very soon!

So for today enjoy the adorable smile, the twinkling eyes, and sprays of freckles…I can’t help but smile when I see that face 😀

Wildflowers

Wildflowers and hills that keep going on and on. Isn’t it lovely?

This is taken at Silver Star Ski Resort just out of Vernon, B.C. Canada.  In the winter this is a ski hill. 🙂 I’d never been up there in the summer and was awed by the beauty…yup, I’m pretty blessed to live here in Canada.

Mountain Expanse

Rolling mountains of British Columbia, Canada.

This is one of the aerial photos I took during a flight I was able to go on last week.  I’ll feature that whole experience in another post (hopefully soonish!) but I couldn’t wait to share at least one already! 🙂

I can’t describe how amazing it was to see the Okanagan Valley from the sky! It really gave a whole new perspective on how beautiful this place is! …and I get to call it home!
