Closet Shopping: Cream, Turquoise, Denim, and Black Lace

Yay! It’s closet shopping week! 😀

So I went for a casual feel for this week’s outfit. It’s been slightly chilly as well so It was the perfect day to add a light sweater.  The turquoise tee is a great way to add some colour!  The black lace scarf was the perfect accessory to slightly dress up the outfit.

I haven’t been in the habit of wearing scarves in my hair…but I really like the effect and it’s an easy way to “add” to an otherwise boring bun.  I think I’m going to use scarves this way more in the future! 😉

Hope you have a fantabulous Friday…and a great weekend!

Closet Shopping: Red, Denim, and Stripes

As I mentioned yesterday, this idea has been in the back of my mind for a while.  I just wasn’t sure when and how to introduce it. Actually, I’m still not sure haha… but the longer I wait “hoping to perfect it” the longer it simply stays an idea.

So I’m jumping right in…right now! 😀

Wednesday’s post reminded me (again!) that…I have a really full closet of clothing… and I’m sure many other women out there do too! It’s not that I shop a lot, I really don’t.  But my size hasn’t dramatically changed in the last few years… so my wardrobe has kind of “accumulated” over time. And the thing is… even with so much, I still shop, I still buy (even if it’s “on sale” or from the thrift store…I’ve still added to my closet!) And somehow…I don’t think I’m the only woman with this problem. 😉

Which brings me to why I’m posting today. I’m calling it “Closet Shopping” and it goes as follows:

The idea is to put together a “new” outfit of what I already own.

This means it must be a combination of clothing I’ve never combined before.

Take a picture and post my “new outfit”.

This will test my fashion sense as well as my creativity (and my memory haha.) I’m the kind of person, that when I put together an outfit, and like it…I keep wearing the same combination and (soon) get bored of it.  It’ll be fun to make myself change things up a little. Half the time when I say “I have nothing to wear” it’s just because I have nothing new to wear.  By doing this, I will have a “new” outfit in a sense… and we all know how nice we feel when we’re wearing a new outfit. I believe this will cut down on my shopping “need” as well. 😉

Today’s outfit: A combination of denim, red, and stripes. (I’ve lately been incorporating stripes into my wardrobe.)

I chose to add some red to this because there wasn’t really an other colour.  Kind of has a sailor feel to it.  The white flats and watch complete the outfit nicely I think.

I’m excited to go shopping in my own closet and to start sharing other “new” outfits with you! This is going to be an ongoing feature here on the blog so be sure and check back soon.

And…yes! It’s Friday! I always like Fridays… enjoy your weekend…maybe try some closet shopping of your own! 😉

7 Logical Tips to Keep Your Wardrobe Organized

So…what girl doesn’t have a closet overflowing with cloths and accessories? Yeah, me too. :-S Sometimes it’s hard to find space for everything (especially when you have a hat collection as I do!) 😛 Well, I thought I’d share a few things I’ve learned recently and not so recently about staying on top of the organization issue.

1. Stacking

As you know by now, I have a hat collection. Well, when you don’t have a whole bunch of extra space, you have to get creative. I figured out that hats with similar styles and sizes fit together very nicely.

Now my entire hat collection fits on one shelf. 😉 This also leaves me enough room to store my winter mitts etc. on the same shelf…!

2. Think About Wrinkles

I’ve found that if I can mentally sort out things that wrinkle easily versus things that don’t wrinkle easily…it helps when putting them away.  If it doesn’t wrinkle much, fold it and put it on a shelf or in a drawer. If it does wrinkle a lot, hang it up.  Some of my skirts (that I’d usually automatically hang up) don’t wrinkle…so I’ve realized by folding them it leaves room to hang up other “less practical” articles of clothing.

3. Scarves

I saw this idea on Pinterest the other day (why didn’t I see this sooner?!) I really love scarves…a lot, it’s just hard to keep track of them. This is a fantastic way to keep track of them…and it’s SO simple! All you need is a hanger! How awesome is that?! Plus, they’re separated so you can see them all…rather than rummaging through a tangled pile (been there, done that!)

4. Hang it up!

You save a lot of drawer space by hanging up your clothes. (I only have 4 drawers so I need to be creative.)  I have these three “pegs” (pictured below).  I keep my cardigan type sweaters and other flowingish sweaters on them (this is so awesome because they don’t wrinkle when they hang!) I also have hooks hanging off the back of my door (SO handy!)

5. Thick Stuff

love big cozy sweaters…! When I wear one it’s almost like being hugged 24/7. Unfortunately, they take up a lot of space…they’re thick and don’t fold very well. 😦 Similar to the “peg” idea, I use the hooks on the back of my door for those… it saves SO much room…and besides, what else would you do with the back of your door?

If you’re tight for space somewhere… reorganize or move thick stuff first! You make more room for yourself that way as well! 😉

6. Make Accessories Accessible!

If it isn’t within easy reach or sight… you probably won’t use it (especially when you’re in a hurry!) Who likes digging through a pile of random accessories trying to find “that one”? I like wearing headbands etc.  I hang them on the towel rack on my vanity.  They’re always within plain sight and I don’t have to detangle anything! It’s something simple but saves time.

7.Double up!

Running out of space? One of the simplest ways to make more room is to double up when you’re hanging or stacking. Most skirt hangers are strong enough to hold two (or three!) skirts.  Hang blazers over blouses (just be careful to fold the blouse collar over the blazer so it doesn’t get wrinkled.) Small purses fit into bigger ones. The possibilities are (almost) endless when you put your mind to it!

I hope you enjoyed this little peek into organizing your wardrobe. Have you learned any “tricks of the trade”? I’m always open to new ideas when it comes to organizing, I’d love to hear what you do or have done in the past!

Happy organizing!

I’ve made a specific board on Pinterest for organizing by hanging… check it out HERE for more ideas!

If you love Pinterest as much as I do… feel free to follow me! 😀

So I have “this thing” for hats…

Just coming through another weekend…! Hope yours was as nice as mine! 😉 Birthday celebrations always make for great “add ons” to an otherwise “normal” (whatever that is!) weekend. 🙂 With a family (including extended) the size of mine, we get to celebrate often! 😀

On to the reason for my post…

So I have this “thing” for hats.  It started years ago when one of my brothers found a “poor boy” (newsie) type hat in a park.  Lucky for me there was a flower on it, and he gave it too me. (Thinking back…wearing a hat found in a park is a little gross…but, it was years ago and I’m still alive. I probably wouldn’t do that now though, just sayin’.) Lots of people said it looked good on me…guess I have a nice face shape for hats…? 🙂 That’s how it started…I’ve bought and received various hats ever since and I have a whole little shelf of my “hat collection”.

I’ve decided post pictures (and the stories that go with them if there is one!) of my hat collection.  Kind of like an “ongoing feature”.  So if you like hats as much as I do…be sure and check back!

My sister crocheted this one for me (hum yeah she’s awesome like that!) so I’m not sure what to call it.  I like this one because it’s simple and goes with a lot of my outfits.  It’s perfect for a “bad hair day” haha. It’s super versatile and works if my hair is up but it’s also a fabulous “add on” if I just want to leave my hair down.  When styling it the day of the picture, I was going for a “1920s feel”.

Hope you enjoyed a peek into my hat collection… there will be (many!) more in the (nearish?) future…!

A touch of yellow…

My latest “rag bag”…

First of all I call it a rag bag because it’s made of leftover pieces of other projects as well as otherwise unusable articles of clothing (i.e. this bag has pieces from two old t-shirts and a pair of pants.)  I designed the pattern a few years ago when I was still taking music lessons, it’s an ideal size for music books and sheet music. (my 17in. laptop fits in perfectly as well… how cool is that, eh?) This one came into being because a friend of mine loved mine. 🙂

My themed colours were black, white, and grey.  At the end I decided to add a few yellow accents… maybe to remind myself that sometimes, we have to choose to add colour to life. We have to choose to smile. Life is always a little more exciting when there’s some colour in it, eh?

So, enjoy your Friday… and add some colour if you need too! 😀
