Feature: Luke & Piper

From these pictures you would never guess that Luke and Piper’s wedding day was rained out!

The downpour caused their original ceremony location to be changed last minute…which also included the need to find a new location for their formal pictures.

However, I couldn’t be more delighted with our “plan B” location and the fun we had.

I only have happy memories when I think of their wedding day! Luke and Piper, thanks for letting me be a part of your day!

Those days…

Those days when you come across a picture.

A picture of people. ย Of good friends.

It brings back memories.

Maybe you’re even in the picture.

It makes you miss the people who are in it because they’re far away.

You know it’s going to be a long while before you see them again.

That’s when you smile…and are thankful for such awesome people you’re able to call friend and for all the great memories and for all the time you have been given in the past.

So here’s to good times and good friends…the ones who are close and the ones who are far away!

Returned, Refreshed…

Well, you may – or may not – have noticed my lack of blogging these past few weeks…

But honestly, after being SO consistent for so long (ok, it was only – what? – sixish months) it was great just to take a break…although it wasn’t really a “planned break” I believe it was beneficial. (By the way, my main excuse for not blogging is that I’ve been super uber busy – including a glorious week spent in Southern California ๐Ÿ˜€ how cool is that, eh!?)

Anyways, I’ve returned. ๐Ÿ™‚ Refreshed. Ready (I think hope!) for the next six months of blogging.

I’m refreshed because I took a break – I “got away”- especially from social media. I didn’t have to think about it. ย I didn’t have to plan my next week of blogging or tweet or think about the ideal times posting etc. You get the idea. ๐Ÿ˜‰ (I’ve been thinking lots about this whole realm we call social media…stay tuned for more thoughts on that in the near future!) I believe I needed this time… to take a little step back – and think.

Well…that was a wordy “I’m back” post… ๐Ÿ˜€

This weekend, we celebrate thanksgiving here in Canada.ย  So my mind has been tossing around the words “thanks or thankful”.ย  I’ve also been recollecting a little over the past year, the 12 months since last thanksgiving (this might have to do with the fact that my current computer screen savor consists of various pictures of people and places from the last year and a half.)

I’m thankful for so many things…and I’m sharing a list today.ย  These are different things that have come to mind as I’ve contemplated the word “thankful”.ย  Many of these I have (and still do!) often take for granted.ย  Some of them I have become more thankful for…because people close to me have lost these during the past year, or don’t have them at all.ย  This post is a chance for me to step back for a minute…to think…and most of all…to be thankful.ย  My list of gifts; (not necessarily in order of importance or significance!)

Jesus Christ – because without Him my entire life’s story would be different.

(Close) friends and new friends – even when you have to say good bye. (So many good byes said this year it seems!) ย …but look on the bright side, new friends mean new adventures!

My parents – ย Words can’t describe…how much I’ve learned from them, how much they mean to me, how thankful I am…

My Siblings – Because I think my life would be boring without them ๐Ÿ˜› This time last year I didn’t know I’d be a big sister again ๐Ÿ˜‰

Music – the gift of being able to hear – because there are people who can’t hear…and people who have never heard music…

My Camera – because through it I see things with a different perspective. ย And through it I can stop time, capture a moment.

My grandparents – Three of my grandparents are still living – and I’ve become more and more grateful for every day I get to spend with them, every time I get to see them…ย  because I’ve seen some of my friends go through the loss of a grandparent this past year.

Sight – I can’t imagine not seeing…can’t imagine life without colour.

Health – Seeing people close to me go through various health issues this past year has been hard.ย  From autoimmune diseases to cancer.ย  If you’re healthy – be thankful!

Food – because it’s yummy…and life would be flavourless without it. ๐Ÿ˜›

My country – the freedom we have here!

Coffee – because well…you can’t really compare anything to coffee…

Imagination – also a gift ๐Ÿ™‚

Laughter – because laughter is a choice and its good for the soul…especially if you have someone with which you can share it. ๐Ÿ™‚

The Present – to be thankful of where I am – right now…because by this time next year…things will have changed…because they always do.

So – BE THANKFUL – right now! For what you have, for where you are, and for the people you’re with… because normal never stays “normal”.

Of a Hat and a Cat…

With summer almost over, I still wanted to post one of my very “summery” hats. ย The wide brim keeps the sun off and it’s nice and light-weight for those hot days. ย Because it’s so simple, it’s easy to dress down or dress up with it. ๐Ÿ™‚

The cat is a stray… she showed up about a week and a half ago and we haven’t been able to track down her family yet. ย She just joined us while we were snapping these pictures and they ended up being my favourite from the set. ๐Ÿ™‚

P.s. Thx for snapping the pics, Sis ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hat Post: The Gift!

Another new hat. ๐Ÿ™‚ ย This one is from a friend…a “just because” gift. From someone who saw it and thought of me, isn’t that sweet?! A new hat and a new hat story. ๐Ÿ™‚

I love the simplicity of this hat and the 1920s vintage feel of its style. Definitely my type of hat ๐Ÿ˜‰

She even put a little personal touch to it…so thoughtful!

Thanks Jenny! ๐Ÿ˜€ I love it! You’ve got great taste!

Feature: A Sister Session

Meet Mel and Mikey. ๐Ÿ™‚

I guess it’s kind of obvious, but they’re sisters. ๐Ÿ™‚ I was simply delighted when Mel asked me if I would do a “sister session” of them.

Our locations were the Japanese gardens in downtown Kelowna after which we walked down to City Park and finished up there. ย It was 30 degrees (86 degrees if you’re American ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) or more the entire time (also add in a little smoke from various forest fires to lock down that heat). It was definitely a hot one…But Mel and Mickey were awesome…like the whole time! ๐Ÿ˜€

We started around 6:30 which got us some great evening sunlight. ๐Ÿ™‚ Sister’s are downright fun, especially with these two! They both have a great sense of humour so getting them to smile was never a challenge.

I’ve known Mel for a long time. A long time fits in this case because…I’ve actually known her my entire life. I can’t say that about many people around my age. ๐Ÿ™‚ We’ve grown up attending the same church which means birthday invitations or even a couple camping trips also happened….and various shopping trips of course! ๐Ÿ˜‰

When we got a little older it meant helping organize youth banquets and various other “youth activities”. (note: I helped…Mel organized!) Mel is one of most reliable people I know, and she’s always been there (especially when I’ve needed something!) Always willing to help. To be there early. To answer questions. To serve others. Mel, thanks for everything…your friendship means a lot to me.

Mickey… well, obviously I haven’t known her as long as her sister because she’s younger! ๐Ÿ™‚ But, I remember her as an adorable toddler with thick dark brown curls. ย It’s been amazing to observe the beautiful young woman she’s grown into. Like her older sister, Mickey is loyal, especially to her friends. She cares about them and is thoughtful of others. Her laughter is contagious…and I always know where to go if I want a hug. ๐Ÿ™‚

As I’ve mentioned in other posts in my blog… having a sister is like having a live-in-best-friend. I believe it’s true for these gals as well.

I mean…who wouldn’t want someone to go shopping with…anytime?ย Or basically having another whole closet of clothes in the house?

Or having someone available to chat…all the time? Someone to laugh with or to simply share a quiet moment together.

Someone who will be by your side and will stand up for you no matter what! That’s what family is about! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ah yes, couldn’t resist at least one picture with that rather nice watch. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well gals, it’s been a slice! Thanks…for being so totally awesome, especially in all that heat! ๐Ÿ™‚ It was great to spend a couple hours with you!

I appreciate your friendship!

I’m a big sister…For the 10th time!

It’s been officially announced everywhere…except my blog! On June 29, 2012…I became a big sister for the 10th time (seriously! How cool is that?!) ๐Ÿ˜€ I’m the third oldest of 12 “children”.

How many other people do you know who can say that, eh?

I feel so blessed, so privileged. Holding little Lulu for the first time…I was overwhelmed – again – at the precious gift of life, of health. Sitting in awe of the intricate miracle of a baby, seeing her perfect fingers and toes…Have you ever had the chance to see a newborn baby’s hands? That tiny “pinky finger” with it’s finger nail? The wonder…of life. The innocence. The unknown. A life just begun.

And I have the honour of being part of her life. The honour of being her ‘big sis’. The honour of pouring part of myself into her life…knowing that who she will eventually grow up to be…is (just slightly!) part of what I (and the rest of my family) pour into her life now (and in the coming years).

Indeed, a gift has been given to us.

I hope these words have shed a little pin prick of light into what it is to “be a big family”. I’ve hard all the comments, the snickers and jokes, when people hear we’re a (compared to most) large family. But what people don’t see is the gift. The relationships (imagine growing up with a “live-in” best friend! I don’t have to imagine…I have it!!) The honour. The blessing. ย The privilege.

We’re a normal real family, far from perfect. (No, we’re not the Canadian version of the Duggar Family…nor are we trying to be!)ย There’s miscommunication at times. ย Sibling squabbles. Disagreements. Arguments debates. I hope I haven’t painted a “picture perfect” family. We deal with the same problems other families deal with (however, probably on a bigger scale! ๐Ÿ˜› ) Every family has problems and issues, when there are 1 or 2 children…or 12 or 19! ๐Ÿ˜‰ By the way, the film, Cheaper by the Dozen (the Steve Martin version) is so exaggerated and unrealistic…I was almost embarrassed. Meal time is never that crazy! I just had to put that in here…I only saw the film once (years ago!) but I always wonder if that’s how people imagine us when I say I’m from a big family!ย Really, we’re pretty normal…there are just more of us!ย

Now that I’ve had my rant. ๐Ÿ™‚ We’re all super excited about the new addition to our family! It’s been 4 1/2 since there’s been a baby around here! Adjustments and changes are happening… (but when the changes are for kid as cute as this…it’s pretty easy!)

Every life is precious! We’re so thankful to God for a safe delivery and that little Lulu is healthy!

Guess I got a little more ‘wordy’ than usual, sorry about that, but it happens when I’m passionate about a subject! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Always, Aims…a very proud big sister! ๐Ÿ˜€

I’ll be featuring “official baby pictures” soon!

Kitten <3

Daily posts about England are more work than I first thought! (But SOOO fun! ๐Ÿ™‚ ) Just means that “other” types of posts aren’t happening as often. ย But that’s okay…I’m having so SO much fun reliving and sharing England! Anyways, here are a couple more pictures of our uber cute kittens.

They’re changing so fast, I knew I needed to post before they change too much more! At the time I took these pictures, the kittens were 10 days old.

Yes, this is the kitten that smiled last week….!

Baby animals are just so cute… they’re so tiny and fuzzy and pitiful….!

I’ll definitely be posting more of the cuddly things in the next few weeks, especially as they get bigger and start to explore etc.!

Till tomorrow!

Feature: Anna’s Prom!

Ah…Prom. They are SO fun to shoot! (of course, it helps when you have photogenic people to shoot like I did! ๐Ÿ˜€ )

The hardest part?! Choosing which pictures to put into a post…because there are SO many beautiful pictures!

Anna’s Prom…We’ll startย at the beginning of the evening when her escort, Mitch, came to pick her up (in a Jeep! yes! ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

But before we leave, let’s take a better look at that gorgeous dress and some of the lovely details.

The dress of a lifetime…

Downtown, we met up with Anna’s friend, Jannice and her escort Jonas.

“Come on girls, let’s go! We can’t be late!”

On the way to meet the rest of the grads for the traditional prom “boardwalk”. ย Every grad class in Kelowna does this. ๐Ÿ™‚ While they were organizing all the other grads…we took the opportunity for a couple shots on the beach.

The traditional walk along the boardwalk… amidst 700+ grads (and their escorts!)

Thanks for letting be part of your special day, Anna! It was super fun! ๐Ÿ˜€ Congratulations on your grade 12 graduation!

P.s. Be sure and come back to my blog tomorrow…I’ll be announcing a special feature that will carry on through the month of June! ๐Ÿ˜€
