Is it dead?

ASP_AimsPhotography_2017-1

I’ve been asking myself lately (among the bazillion other things always swirling through my mind) if my blog is dead.

Yes.

And no.

I don’t know.

I guess I haven’t decided how or if I’ll try resurrecting it. I’ve considered many times deleting it and/or starting a new one.  I’ve tried and pressured myself many times to restart or keeping going from where I left off.  I’ve realized that that would be impossible because in the five years since I started blogging I’ve almost become a completely different person.  In five years not only have I gotten married, I’ve become a mother, and my hubby and I have build a house (well, almost…it isn’t finished yet haha.) Going through all of those life events changes you.  Part of me wishes I could have kept up with the blog for my own sake to be able to look back at the memories.

This blog is special though because it’s a little piece of my personal history that will always be there. The pictures and the memories tied to it are priceless especially as I see how much my family has changed as well and how my little siblings have grown up into beautiful teenagers.

I still love creating…and maybe this will grow into a new and different creative outlet.

The possibilities are endless…and maybe that’s the best part?

“New Stuff” and Week-at-a-Glance

It’s been a exhausting “crazy busy” week for me here on the blog! 😀 I’ve also been trying to evade the nasty cold a few of my siblings had…so far so good – mostly, my throat was tickle-ish to day… 😦 Hoping it goes no further than that!

I decided to try blogging every (week) day this week…my first thought now: it’s a lot of work! 🙂 But at this point I still like blogging…which is probably a good sign, right? 🙂 When I first started blogging I thought 2 times a week would be a challenge…meaning, I consider this an accomplishment. 🙂

It was fun to introduce you all to what will be one of the ongoing features here on my blog…which was my hat collection. (until I run out of hats!)

I had a lovely afternoon with Rasco and was delighted to share her shoot with you too…whenever I look back on those shots I think of a whimsical walk through the woods with a redheaded fairy.

Yesterday was fantastic too…I mean how many people get to have a friend as fun as Astrid? (Also broke my previous record for most site views in one day!)

Today it’s a little quieter around here… later I’ll be out shooting an adorable 3 year old (by the way, I’m already excited about sharing that one here!) 😀 Hoping the weather holds up though… :-S

But I do more with my life than snap pictures and blog. 🙂

Another “thing I do” is that I like to (try) keep track of “firsts”. (i.e. the first time I ate sushi or took a ride on a wooden roller coaster etc.)

When I do or try something new I like to keep track of it…now, one of the ways I’ll be keeping track of the “new things” I do will be here on my blog…(maybe it will help make me take pictures of them rather than just write it down or even just “remember” it!)

Recent “new stuff”:

I had my first lesson driving standard. Learning to drive standard is one of my “2012 goals”.  So far so good… :-S

I also had the recent discovery of this tea. I was scrounging through our “tea drawer” looking for something different when this label caught my eye:

Direct translation is that it’s a black tea and the flavour? Strawberry/Pepper.  Yes pepper (as in that dark stuff we sprinkle on our food pepper.) (ok, they used red pepper kernels to be specific…but it’s still pepper!) That fit the category of “different” nicely. 🙂  I actually quite enjoyed it… the after taste had the slightest “bite” to it; I liked it. (If you like chili chocolate you’d love this tea!) Of course… you’d have to go to Germany for this brand! 😛

Oh yeah, that picture also documents the first time I had gel nails done. (I liked them…made me feel all girly haha.) 🙂

Happy Friday! Try something new, eh!

So I have “this thing” for hats…

Just coming through another weekend…! Hope yours was as nice as mine! 😉 Birthday celebrations always make for great “add ons” to an otherwise “normal” (whatever that is!) weekend. 🙂 With a family (including extended) the size of mine, we get to celebrate often! 😀

On to the reason for my post…

So I have this “thing” for hats.  It started years ago when one of my brothers found a “poor boy” (newsie) type hat in a park.  Lucky for me there was a flower on it, and he gave it too me. (Thinking back…wearing a hat found in a park is a little gross…but, it was years ago and I’m still alive. I probably wouldn’t do that now though, just sayin’.) Lots of people said it looked good on me…guess I have a nice face shape for hats…? 🙂 That’s how it started…I’ve bought and received various hats ever since and I have a whole little shelf of my “hat collection”.

I’ve decided post pictures (and the stories that go with them if there is one!) of my hat collection.  Kind of like an “ongoing feature”.  So if you like hats as much as I do…be sure and check back!

My sister crocheted this one for me (hum yeah she’s awesome like that!) so I’m not sure what to call it.  I like this one because it’s simple and goes with a lot of my outfits.  It’s perfect for a “bad hair day” haha. It’s super versatile and works if my hair is up but it’s also a fabulous “add on” if I just want to leave my hair down.  When styling it the day of the picture, I was going for a “1920s feel”.

Hope you enjoyed a peek into my hat collection… there will be (many!) more in the (nearish?) future…!

Why Green?!

I’ve hinted earlier at my favourite colour: green.

But, why? Well, here’s my “green” story. 😀

I didn’t grow up loving green, and calling it my favourite colour.  Actually, I can’t even remember what my favourite colour as a kid was…hum, weird.  Anyways, I didn’t wear green, all my accessories weren’t green etc.  So…Green came into my life with a “bang” or, quite literally a splash of paint.

Rewind my life back two and a half years:

It’s a few weeks before my birthday…and when Mom asked what I wanted, I suddenly had this brilliant idea. “For my birthday, I want a can of paint for my bedroom walls.”  I was somewhat ecstatic when she actually agreed.  The only stipulation was that we both had to agree on the colour.  I was just excited for the change… anything would be better than my currant bedroom wall colour (you know that babyish princess pink that every 6 year old LOVES? Hum yeah… let’s just say I haven’t been six for LONG time!)

Too make what could be a long story shorter… I’m sitting in my bedroom now, surrounded by “light” green walls and chocolate brown accents.  As one my friends stated when she had a sleepover, “I always wanted to sleep in a lime.” 🙂

Postcards I collected while in England...tacked up on my GREEN bedroom walls! 🙂

But you know what? I love it! Why? Because it’s SO different than the rest of our house, than the rest of my life, haha.  It’s so refreshing to come home…and to walk in and “be in another world” ;-).  It’s almost become a haven of sorts.

When I think of green, some of the first words that come to mind: Spring. Resurrection. Fresh. LIFE! England. Rain. Happy. Mint chocolate chip ice cream.  The list could go on and on… 😀

For myself, it has come to represent optimism, or rather the choice to be optimistic. I also heard somewhere that “green is the colour of hope”. Maybe it’s true.

When it’s muddy and yucky outside, it’s still bright and cheery in here. 🙂 However, even after that, green only stayed on my walls.  It’s only been in the last six or sevenish months that it’s made it into other parts of my life and in a few different shades…( I also adore Kelly green by the way.) Or maybe I’m just noticing it now.

So, here are a few of the “greens” that surround my every day life.

the flashlight on my keychain...
My iPod case and the case for my Kobo eReader
Curtains...
"my mouse" 🙂
my travel mug
I even had green butterflies put on my nails a couple weeks ago...
Yes, I am cool enough to use a green violin bow...just sayin'
My recent VV purchase. Airwalks in my size...and they're green! How cool is that, eh?

So that’s why I choose green to accent my blog, my facebook, twitter, and website. Green reminds me of life, and to choose to look on the bright side. And always to have hope!

Out of the Box

Yup, it’s friday…and yes, I’m breaking out of my “blog 3 times a week” box. 🙂 (there’s already one scheduled for tomorrow if you just counted how many times I blogged this week 😛 )

But, I’m happy…so I’ll blog (that’s a good enough reason, right? 🙂 ) Besides, sometimes it’s nice break a habit and do something different. Get out of my own “self-imposed” box…

Actually, the real reason I’m writing a quick blog post is to say “thanks”.  I’m celebrating over 1000 hits to my blog page, no I don’t know the usual blog stats and if this is normal or even worth celebrating (and yes, I’m too lazy to research them 😛 ) But whatever, this makes me happy, especially because my blog has only “been public” for a week and a couple days ;-).  Yesterday was my busiest day with 300+ views.  Thanks Anna and Jannice, you gals helped make it possible I’m sure! Just wanted to say thanks for all the support to all you who have been reading and following etc! 😀

Anyways, just wanted to say I’m excited. Look for some new features etc. in the next few weeks!

Here’s a hint at tomorrow’s blog post. I’ll leave it up to your imagination to what it alludes…

Till tomorrow, always…Aims

Official Blog Unveiling

Finally! The official unveiling of my blog! I’m super excited you’re here. 😀

The thought of starting a blog (not to mention a website!) has been in the back of my mind for a while.  But, I had no idea where to begin… so I didn’t do anything.  For the last two months I’ve been working through an online course called Look Through… among other things, it included setting up a blog and a website! It’s been an intense couple of months filled lots of skype conversations, helpful ideas and insites…and many “tech battles” (since my blog is up and running, I think that means I won 😉 ).  But seriously, the last two months were…fantastic!  It’s a pretty awesome feeling to have something of a “game plan” for the future.

Now, that I’ve actually got my blog up and running, and posted a couple of times, I have a feeling it’s something I’m going to enjoy. J (btw, beware: I write long run on sentances…just sayin’).

Sometimes the only pictures a Photographer gets into... (This was taken in Germany last year.)

You can read more about me in the “Meet Aims” page on my blog. But to save you an extra click, I’ll just tell you a tiny bit about myself.  My name is Amy, but way back when, the nickname “Aims” stuck (sure glad some of my other nicknames didn’t! :-D).  Lots of my friends and family call me Aims, and you’re welcome to as well. 🙂

A piece of my Photographic story…

Every family has “the family photographer”. I stepped into that role years ago armed with a 3.2 megapixel point and shoot camera (haha my cell phone has more mega pixels than that now! Wow!) My love for photography grew out of that; maybe it’s the beautiful country in which I live, or maybe it was my siblings and cousins willing to be my subjects…but somewhere along the way, I realized that this is what I want to “do with my life”.

Obviously, the little 3.2 megapix camera is collecting dust in a cupboard now… and my hobby is becoming my business.  This blog will be the perfect place to share my personal as well as my professional life through the pictures I take.

Yup...I'm the one that gets excited over discovering that there is a mirror on the roof in the museum.

Along with starting a business comes the long awaited…WEBSITE! I’m absolutely thrilled to share this link with you today! Let me know what you think of it, eh?! 😀

I wanted to say a special thanks if you’re reading this, because if you are, you’re part of the beginning of my blogging journey…and I appreciate that! So, thank you. 🙂

This is just the beginning…
